Back in 2015 I was invited by the BSC to screen my short film ‘Ted’ at the Prince Charles Cinema, shot on a single 400ft magazine of Super 16mm Kodak 7219.
I was very proud of it at the time… now I only see mistakes!

Canon Europe: Full Throttle with the Compact Servo 18-80mm /
In partnership with Canon UK and Canon EMEA Pro, I set out to film the Fortitudo Property Poole Bay 100 powerboat race using the Movi Pro, C300mkii + Compact Servo 18-80mm.
This was a customised Movi setup which enabled me to use full FIZ control without the need of external motors, which both kept the weight and power draw of the system to a minimum, whilst allowing for long-form filming to yield cineflex-style shots as the boats wrestled for position on the water.
The ability to have full FIZ control whilst operating a gimbal is unheard of as a solo-operator, and this is only possible due to the combination of Canon lenses and cinema-eos bodies. On the water I had set my exposure to be automated and held at +1 EV in a backlit scenario, with focus automated in a large area at the centre of frame. I could then frame and initiate powered zooms as events unfolded in front of me.
The smooth, automated ramping of iris offered by the CN18-80mm Compact Servo was invaluable in a situation with patchy cloud cover, and puts this system up into higher professional leagues in my opinion.
Intelligent automated and semi-automated functions are no longer for the prosumer, they are the future of productions!

YouTube channel launched! - Featured in Framework Films /
What better to do in lockdown than start a YouTube channel? I have done exactly that, and to start off I have created a drone film dedicated to my time in the Scottish Highlands.
I was interviewed by Mike Lindle of Framework Films about the process involved in planning and creating this piece, which you can read here.
I will be releasing further content soon on the topics I am passionate about - life in the film industry, the latest trends in camera gear, and of course the creative process!
